Therapeutic Writing

Therapeutic writing is a conversation with ourselves, a curious noticing, an emptying to refill anew. Lifting the hand to the page, we are turning to ourselves, attuning to ourselves. I find this a beautiful moment.

Writing can be active rest and animated pause. It’s something I have loved since childhood, though I wonder here about the distinction between love and need. Writing has been necessary for me - to understand, to release, to ground myself, to soothe myself.

When I write I can more fully own my experience. I can script and sculpt myself as I was, as I am, and as the person I’m becoming. There is life here, and support for life, in meeting myself in this way.

Writing releases me as it teaches me. I give as I receive and my pen mediates the exchange: rarely, if ever, is it too much.

Writing helps me encounter myself, my life, my truth, my sadness and my joy - always just as much as I feel able. And it extends the encounter more than I think possible, every time.

I feel supported and soothed by its rhythm and flow, the visceral feedback from my words as they appear on the page. I feel deeply accompanied.

When we write freely to express our inner worlds, it can be richly self regulating and gently revealing. It is a wonderful resource.

Writing as a powerful tool of expression

In early 2020 I combined my years of experience as a therapist, facilitator and lover of words to create my first therapeutic writing sessions. Since then, I have guided many through monthly sessions and short courses, with feedback that has truly affirmed the power of this work.

Join me for my ongoing monthly writing hours - the Sunday Pages - or for Alchemy, my 9 week writing course, both of which are hosted through community and learning platform The Portal.

The Sunday Pages

Here is a space to gather online each month to be supported and inspired through therapeutic writing. Each month we write on a new theme, curated by myself, and often in tune with seasonal change.

For Autumn 2025, The Sunday Pages are being gathered into one three month programme called Leafing, running from September to November.

Alchemy

Alchemy is my 9 week therapeutic writing experience, in which you are deeply accompanied in your self exploration. Using writing throughout both to guide and ground us, we will meet for 8 weekly online sessions, which I facilitate with care, curiosity and sensitive rigour. We will pause for one week at the half way point to rest and digest before journeying onwards.

Alchemy is currently running for a final round this year. More dates for 2026 coming soon.
